Columns can be repaired and strengthen by Kirkconnell Maintenace
using Carbon Fiber/Epoxy Composites
Carbon fiber reinforced composites are very strong for
their weight. They're often stronger than steel, but a whole lot
lighter. This repair method is often best for occupied facilities.
Using this repair method, Kirkconnell Maintenance often does not
need to install shoring and there is usually less need to remove
existing fixtures and conduits in the repair area. The existing
structure does not need to be weakened before the strengthening
(less shoring and interruption in your space). The repair of
columns using this technology is often called WRAPPING and/or
JACKETTING. A Limitations are that often the repaired member will
need more fire proofing. Kirkconnell Maintenance can also apply
fire proofing to Carbon Fiber Epoxy Composites.
When Tensile stregth is not being addressed in the repair
often glass and or other fibers are better
suited.
