Structural repairs involving metal and welding

Our repair and restoration knowledge gives our work a high quality.

We can build, have galvanized and install metal components to specifications.

We have 24 years experience in the installation of anchor bolts and epoxied rods into structural concrete. We know how to locate and drill clear of the embedded steel.

Below, years of unseen water leaks rusted the bearing ends of the bar joist supporting this concrete deck.

The concrete deck was opened. The deteriorated metal components have been removed and new steel is being welded

to the existing good steel. This ramp was the entrance for the Garage. Kirkconnell worked so as to not close down the garage.

Then the new and old steel were given a good coating of rust inhibiting paint.

This repair was done in two sections so that the garage could remain open.

Then a new concrete deck was installed. Kirkconnell did this job with out closing the garage.

Below 1" rods where embedded 12 inches into the column. The holes in the metal component were

drilled on sight. A wooden template is used to mark the ideal location of the holes

on the metal component and the concrete column. Then small diameter pilot holes are drilled.

If re-bar is encountered a close inspection with a flash light can help decide which angle to slant the next drill bit.

The holes are re-drilled with progressively larger diameter drill bits. As the re bar is

encountered the drill bit will gradually seek a rout around it. After the holes are drilled in the

concrete, then it is possible to drill the metal component to match. This technology

Is recommended by us even when good x-rays are at hand. Re-bar in bearing areas is

congested. Magnetic induction sensors are not reliable in congested areas. Please note

that the middle bolt in the right row is not in line, that is because the embedded steel in the concrete

was in it's intended axis. The drilling operation needs to take into account that the haunch needs

to be installed so as to support a load.
